About Toronto Grief Counselling

Are you grieving the loss of someone or something special in your life? Do you feel alone and lost in your grief? Grief can be incredibly painful, disruptive, and confusing. You may feel “broken” or think you are doing it all wrong.  Maybe you are unsure of how to heal from such deep pain and how to manage this complex, often isolating, experience.

What is grief counselling and how can it help me?

Grief counselling is a form of therapy that helps you process the emotional, physical, social, spiritual and psychological impacts of loss. You may be grieving a death, relationship loss, job loss, or major life transition. Grief therapy provides a supportive space to understand your experience, develop coping strategies, and integrate your loss into your life in a meaningful way. Together we tend to your grief so you can find a renewed sense of meaning, purpose and vitality.

Where does grief counselling take place?

Toronto Grief Counselling offers grief counselling in Toronto and virtually across Ontario. In-person sessions are held at 151 Harbord Street in Toronto while virtual sessions are held through a secure online portal.

What types of loss do you support clients with?

Toronto Grief Counselling offers support for many forms of loss, including the death of a loved one, anticipatory grief, pregnancy and infant loss, relationship breakups, divorce, job loss, health changes, and other major life transitions. Grief is not limited to death losses and any meaningful loss can be addressed in therapy. All grief experiences are welcome.

How do I know if I need grief therapy?

You may benefit from grief counselling if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, isolated, numb or unsure how to cope after a loss. If your loss is affecting your sleep, work, relationships, or sense of self and purpose, grief therapy can provide structured support and a place to be held in your grief.

How much does grief counselling cost, and is it covered by insurance?

Fees vary depending on the type and length of session. A regular 50-mins individual session is $200 and can be reimbursed if you have an extended health insurance plan that covers a Registered Social Worker (RSW). It’s recommended to check with your provider regarding reimbursement for psychotherapy services. More information regarding fees and coverage can be found here.
